This^^^

I had forgotten about it until one of the load screen hints reminded me.

I've got about 10 potions figured out (and a couple learned/found) I'll try to post them tonite. Also, I've investigated (eaten) a LOT of ingredients, so I know 1-2 activities for several.

Also, don't forget Enchanting!

So why does the first list Noodles posted have so many ingredients for each potion, but the second one he posted has only like 2 per recipe? Am I missing something?

The first list is just the ingredients that have those properties, where the second one is actually recipes. though they are all fairly low level recipes, I will be cleaning this up into a more usable format if I can.

My spreadsheet is not likely to be ready today, because it is ridiculous, but once it is done, we should be able to mathematically figure out recipes for certain things based on the items attributes (primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary). I am about 1/4 done populating it, some of the information on the internet that I am finding is incomplete, so there are a few potions that may or may not be able to figure out, or have side effects that may or may not be helpful.

While the number of potions ins't truly limitless, the number of combinations has got to be mind boggling when you look at combining 3 different components, each that can have (ok, MUST have) compatable main effect, but then each one can have 3 more secondary/tertiary/quaternary effects. That will be a LOOOOONG, complicated list!

Another thing that might prove helpful here are all 4 active effects of each ingredient

That is what is making it a long process... taking a break right now. I have all of them entered alphabetically up to nirnroot right now. So I have approx. 30 more to enter into the table, but once it is done it should be fairly easy to figure out what you need to make certain potions. For both 2 and 3 ingredient potions.

Do you have a checky box for compatability? In some cases, they don't work together, and i'm not sure why...

If you blend incompatable stuff (say, damage health and restore health) it will say something like "potion failed"

I tried a protection from frost fire and shock and got the same result (but I'm low level, so that may have been a prob for tht one :dunno:)

Don't forget, there are Alchemy perks that remove positive effects on poisons, and negative effects on potions. Rather far into the tree though.

I will be able to upload it when I get home, I just can't do a lot of stuff online with my work computer, because of firewall issues. I think I am going to create a Google + page to dedicate to this stuff and then just post a link. That way I can have some docs up there in easier format to view/work with than just this posting format. Also, if we can get enough people in, we can group edit things and work it out that way. I already have the page started, I just don't have it ready to go... once again because of work issues.

Not a recipe but I just cleared a dungeon that contained more alchemy reagents than I've seen anywhere in the game so far. It's called Toland's Cave and I think it was in the lower right corner of the map. After one pass I had almost 100 glowing mushrooms, 75 Chlorus (sp?) eggs, and a shitload of other stuff. You couldn't take 2 steps without tripping over more shit! I spent about 20 minutes at the meth Alchemy lab after that Dungeon dive.

Jesus I made about 100 potions tonight and my alchemy barely went up. When I make my next character I am going to focus on that skill at the earliest levels.

Why would doing it earlier matter? The skill I still low so doing it should increase it rather quickly.

Why would doing it earlier matter? The skill I still low so doing it should increase it rather quickly.

I would invest skills points in it, which (I assume) would help the process. Maybe not?

It seems to be oddly weighted... I think you get more exp for creating multi-effect potions, and it seems you get a slightly larger boost from creating a potion that reveals an effect or two from the ingredients used...

Could just be me though...lol

Anyone else confirm this? I want to make the best potions that I can in terms of raising skill.

From what I've read/watched on leveling alchemy the general idea is to make the potions that sell for the most because they give the most experience per potion. People will go to the alchemy shop in Whiterun, buy all of her ingredients, make the potions based on value (highest first), sell the potions to the lady, wait 48 hours, and repeat. Everyone says it does take a while and that buying the training is worth it if you want/can spare the coin to do so, and of course you can always steal it back :)

I can't confirm this though because I am still procrastinating on leveling alchemy, but I do have quite the stockpile of ingredients

Oh and apparently there is a potion of wheat+giant's toe that sells for a bunch and is good experience, but I haven't made it yet.

Blue mountain flowers and wheat also give the fortify/restore health effects... Can't remember what else the Giant's toe might give off the top of my head...
