CFL Power Rankings #4

DC rises, projected pre-season favorites drop, and Commissioner Jango is investigating Indiana for alleged "shoot-for-pay" bounties offered to their players last season.  Four meets are out of the way and there are a couple of tight divisional races as well as for best record in the league.  Also, Left 4 Dead DLC has still not been released.

1 - Steel City Screaming Eagles, 13-2-1 (Last Rank #1)
Sure, the Detonators have a half-game better record and jumping them from 3rd to 1st is not unheard of, but the margin of victory by the Eagles is keeping them in first place.  Ironic that the new Points For / Points Against calculation is keeping DC in second just as the lack of the calculation kept them out of the playoffs last year.  There's no escape Schnook!  Next up, they're at Windy City (4-11-1).

2 - DC Detonators, 14-2 (Last Rank #3)
Jumping up a spot over last years champions is a good thing, no?  Consider that the schedule-makers had DC as the third best team in the division, so they'll try to ride their so-called "easier" schedule to the best record in the league and maybe #1 ranking?  Next up, they host the Jersey Red Dragons (6-9-1) the only team to have beaten them all year.

3 - Indiana SAMS, 11-4-1 (Last Rank #2)
Indiana is not comfortable here at #3... or are they?  Perhaps they dropped a game to Windy City to give other teams false confidence.  On the other hand, they're an aging team.  Perhaps skills are eroding and they'll drop even further.  Next up, they travel to Ventura (2-13-1) to celebrate Octoberfest.

4 - Rocky Mountain Rolling Thunder, 7-9 (Last Rank #4)
The Rolling Thunder is coming off a disappointing week.  Their destiny was in their hands and they could have moved into first place with a sweep.  With Grizz's connection good, they had their collective mind on revenge, but fell way short and now their playoff hopes are in danger.  Next up, they'll go to Dayton (4-11-1) where confidence is high.

5 - Dayton Cobras, 4-11-1 (Last Rank #6)
Should Dayton really have been moved up a notch over Jersey whom they beat 2-1-1 while being down a man?  Well, for this week it does, but their hold on this spot, unlike my my Kung-Fu, is not strong.  Next up, they'll host Rocky Mountain (7-9) whose confidence is low after being swept by DC.

6 - Jersey Red Dragons, 6-9-1 (Last Rank #5)
Jersey had a chance to pass Rocky Mountain in the standings but failed to take advantage.  Can they raise their spirits and move into second place this week?  They've got a make or break meet down the road.  Next up, they travel to DC (14-2) to show dem boys their two victories in week 1 were not a fluke.

7 - Windy City Hustlers, 4-11-1 (Last Rank #7)
Windy City played last year's champions tight and managed to take a game from them showing great heart.  Unfortunately, they couldn't ride that wind to any further victories.  Don(na) Missy has ordered CapoRed33 to take out the head of the SAM family.  Next up, they host the Screaming Eagles (13-2-1).

8 - Ventura Warlords, 2-13-1 (Last Rank #8)
Beertura ran into the jug'o'beernaut they call (beer) Esco.  Esco was on a (beer) wild tear after having given up his (beer) "DropShot" controller layout.  Ventura has mastered the art of drinking the losses away before the game has been decided.  Next up, they drink beer and host Indiana (11-4-1). Yep, NEMO is the culprit he should be suspended for a match or two :lmao:

Third best in the Division? Easier schedule? The entire Screaming Eagle write-up is about the Detonators? What's next? Taking away $36M in cap space?

The players union is filing a grievance against the league's unfair bias against my team due to the writers obvious jealously towards my winning pick'em skills.

Schnook v. Writer

Third best in division
The plaintiff is putting words in the defendents mouth. The defendant said "the schedule-makers had DC as the third best team in the division". This is by no means an indication of what the team currently is.

DETAIL
Teams were slotted into divisions via their post-draft team rating average. At that time, DC had the 3rd best rating in their division. Clearly, as seen below, the ratings were off a bit.

1.20 - Jersey
1.09 - Indiana
1.09 - Rock Mountain
1.06 - Steel City
1.04 - Ventura
1.04 - DC
1.01 - Windy City
0.88 - Dayton

Easier Schedule
Again, the plaintiff twists word. The defendant said so-called with the intended meaning being perhaps it's not so easy. This was reinforced by putting the word easier in quotes. Lastly, it said "they will try to ride" which is future tense, meaning their remaining games.

DETAIL
Regardless of where a team was slotted, all teams played the other three teams in their division twice. What makes it easier is when you play the teams. In the final week, the schedule-maker has the #2 host the #1 and the #4 host the #3. Since those rankings are from preseason, DC's schedule of facing #4 as the #3 seed is easier going forward than it should have been if they were facing #2 since they are in fact, #1.

Again, they played all the teams, but going forward, their schedule is seemingly easier facing the #3 and #4 teams.

writers obvious jealously towards my winning pick'em skills
Nah, the writer made bad picks on purpose to uphold the integrity of the pick'em and avoid scrutiny that he was cheating. Nah, I just made bad picks. I still can't believe I only got 6 right this week. (16 - RMRT = 12 - Tie games = 10 - Windy City Vic = 9 = Dayton screwed me!)

The entire Screaming Eagle write-up is about the Detonators?
No, it's about how Steel City maintained the lead due to net points and Schnook.

JUDGMENT
The judgment goes to the plaintiff. The court awards the writer free reign to pick on DC next write-up and lower them in the rankings if he so chooses. The writer is guilty of not feeling comfortable writing about his own team. The writer had this statement to make after the judgment came down: "Zain. Tigrica. Blackzipper. Doodman. Esco. Thank me, my honor. I'm welcome."

It's likely more that the CFL scouting department dropped the ball.

Objection!

The juxtaposition of the team rankings in relation to the outcome of the actual events decline to adhere to the fact that the writers intentions are in no way validatable and yet they are deemed to be accurate in accordance to federal law relating to and or by the actual ranking systems that occurred in error by the writers well intentioned falsehoods. Ip so facto.

For the record, old tea is the strongest. :)

And, when it does, it's worth 78% of American mojo.
